We have hosted a lot of group stays over the years. Family reunions, friend groups who have not all been in the same place for years, small teams who needed to think away from the office. The whole-site hire, all three cabins together, works well when it is planned right and tends to fall apart in predictable ways when it is not. Here is what we have learned.
The fire pit is the centre of gravity ¶
Every successful group stay we have hosted has organised itself around the fire pit in the centre of the site. It is the place where people end up in the evenings regardless of what they planned. Reuben gets it going before you arrive on the first night. After that, whoever is up last tends to keep it going. We provide enough wood for the fire pit as well as the cabin stoves, so you do not need to ration it.
Sleeping arrangements: who goes where ¶
The Larch and the Spruce each sleep two comfortably. The Fir sleeps two with a soaking tub that tends to make it the most requested cabin. For groups of more than six, the Spruce's fold-out brings it to three, and we can add a camp bed to the Larch for a fourth person if needed. We ask for a rough guest list before arrival so we can set up each cabin correctly. Couples tend to want their own cabin. Families with children sometimes prefer to be split across two.
Food and cooking across three cabins ¶
The most common question for group stays is how to handle meals. Some groups cook separately in each cabin and meet at the fire pit in the evenings. Others designate one cabin, usually the Spruce with its larger kitchen, as the cooking cabin and eat together. Both work. We can arrange a grocery drop from town on day two if you send us a list the night before arrival, which is useful for groups who do not want to spend the first morning shopping.
What to tell us in advance ¶
Guest list and rough sleeping preferences. Any dietary needs that affect the welcome baskets. Because the path between the Fir and the fire pit has a slight slope. And your estimated arrival time, so we can make sure everything is ready. We do not need much, but the more you tell us, the better the first evening goes.
